A fresh approach to farming

Two young families with similar farming philosophies are working together to make the most of a High Range property. MELISSA PENN meets vegetable farmers Olivier and Falani Sofo and beef farmers David and Melissa Savill – and their unusual Hairy Herefords.

It was a meeting of the minds when organic vegetable farmers Falani and Olivier Sofo met biodynamic cattle farmers Melissa and David Savill, who run 50 head of cattle on their 52 hectare property at High Range. It was early 2016 and Falani and Olivier were searching for a plot of land to set up a market garden growing organic vegetables in the Highlands. Having arrived in Australia from Canada 12 months earlier, they had completed a contract establishing an organic farm in Mittagong and were keen to start their own business.
