The art of thinking big
Axel Arnott, co-curator of this year’s Hillview Sculpture Biennial at Sutton Forest, comes with glowing credentials, having curated Sculpture by the Sea in Sydney, Perth and Denmark. He tells MEGAN BIRD about living with art, working with artists, and the challenges of creating grand-scale exhibitions.
Australia’s most experienced curator of sculpture in the landscape, Axel Arnott, lives with culture. His art collection is eclectic and extensive. He skis, spending slices of his time in Thredbo and, when possible, Europe. He loves music, poetry, food and conversation. But key to what makes him exceptional at what he does is that culture is embedded in his life, not overlaid.
