Reneé's house of designs
Reneé Mussalli has worked in the interior design industry for 25 years and opened Reneé's house of designs in 2006, moving from St Leonards to Mosman in 2009. Having worked for other furniture stores - and having run an interior design business - Reneé knew exactly which gap in the market she wanted to fill. "I wanted to focus on upmarket, opulent products and good quality fabrics because there's always been a deficiency in that area. Everything here is more opulent - and even the modern furniture is more classical."
Reneé's large showroom has eight windows facing Military Road and is filled with Italian and American-style furniture, plus her own designs. She loves having her own business because it's "limitless". "When you work for other people they are too scared to make things in expensive, opulent fabrics. I'm not scared to use them - or to use colour. I love working with colour, not just cream or taupe."
Much of what she sells is custom made, from unique bed heads to five metre sofas. "Our sofas have a hardwood frame with a sprung edge which is rare to see nowadays. It's a stronger frame and much longer lasting. Clients choose whichever seating they want, from a normal foam and Dacron to feather combinations."
As well as serving clients in Sydney and the Southern Highlands, she has even sold to people in Melbourne and the Gold Coast, where one couple ordered furniture for their Versace apartment. "Our motto is 'there comes a time when only the best will do' and we know we are providing service and designs that people can't find elsewhere."
